LAW-8093 Legal Operations and Management of Legal Services
This is a practice-ready course that teaches law students how legal work is actually delivered and managed in modern organizations and also qualifies them to earn a Legal Operations Certificate from the Legal Lean Sigma Institute. Students are introduced to the business, operational, and strategic management of legal services. Students learn how legal departments and law firms plan and design, manage, measure, and improve legal work using process improvement, project management, technology, and data.The course integrates the Legal Lean Sigma Institute methodology with the CLOC Core 12 legal operations competencies, which define the operational capabilities required for modern legal departments. These competencies include business intelligence, financial management, knowledge management, project management, technology, strategic planning, and service delivery models.Students work in teams throughout the semester on a real legal operations challenge, learning how to plan it, diagnose inefficiencies, design solutions, and implement operational change.
