LAW-8091 Interface of AI and IP

This course explores the intellectual property ramifications of developing and using modern AI technologies, with a deep focus on the technical structure of popular machine learning architectures. Students will first learn fundamentals of the critical data flows in models like Transformers and Diffusers during the training and inference stages. With this understanding, students will then consider the copyright, patent, and other IP implications of all aspects of engaging with these cutting-edge technologies. By the end of the course, students will be able to synthesize counsel and corporate policy, rooted in the technologies' fundamental technical realities and state of IP law, for creating, leveraging, and/or productizing AI.
