LAW-8030 Schools, Race, and Money
This interdisciplinary course will explore the relationship of law and policy in the administration of elementary and secondary public education in the United States. We will study topics affecting most K-12 public school students: (1) Schools – the structure, hierarchy, and governance of public elementary and secondary education; (2) Race – desegregation and resegregation and other racial disparities in school policies and practices; and (3) Money – primarily school finance and school choice, examining the constitutional right to public education in contrast to the school privatization movement.
