LAW-8084 NextGen Fundamentals of Law I
This course is specifically designed for students who will be taking bar exam in a jurisdiction that has adopted the NextGen bar exam. Starting in July 2026, a limited number of jurisdictions will offer the NextGen bar exam, and, in July 2028, the NextGen bar exam will completely replace the current legacy UBE bar exam. Massachusetts and New York, along with multiple other jurisdictions, will first offer the NextGen bar exam in July 2028. For a complete list of when states will adopt and administer the NextGen bar exam go to ncbex.org. This course is designed to provide a review of substantive law in multiple areas that are heavily tested on the NextGen bar exam and to develop the skills necessary to apply the substantive law to answer bar exam multiple choice questions, and integrated question sets. Students will also receive instruction on the performance test portion of the NextGen exam. Using a systematic problem solving approach, the course is intended to assist students in: (1) Tackling multiple choice questions tested on the bar exam; (2) Critically reading and responding to integrated question sets on the bar exam; (3) Critically reading and drafting responses to performance tests; and (4) Reviewing the substantive law that many students have not studied since their first year of law school. Students will be evaluated by a closed-book final exam. In addition, students will be required to complete multiple ungraded and graded assessments (both multiple choice and writing assignments) throughout the semester, and students will receive frequent individualized feedback from the instructor.
