LAW-2213 Ukrainian Accountability Project
The Ukraine Accountability Project is a student-directed, faculty supervised international human rights project. Students can participate in UAP as an independent faculty-supervised externship course for credit, or as a volunteer.The Ukraine Accountability Project is part of larger network of international prosecutors, academics and student researchers, the Global Accountability Network. UAP provides an extraordinary opportunity for students to work in concert with international experts and under the supervision of Suffolk Law faculty (Professor Sara Dillon) to put together open source evidence of various international crimes, including war crimes, ecocide, crimes against humanity. Students gain valuable skills in fact investigation, legal research, and drafting – all in the context of real human rights matters. Work product generated by UAP is distributed to various international bodies, including the United Nations and the Council of Europe.Students must complete a minimum of 45 hours of work with UAP for one credit and 90 hours for a maximum of two credits per semester. These credits will count towards fulfilling the experiential graduation requirement. In lieu of a formal classroom component, students will be directly supervised by Professor Dillon and field supervisors from GAN. Students will be required to meet regularly with Professor Sara Dillon and attend meetings with fellow UAP students and attorneys from GAN. Students will be expected to log their hours, complete journal assignments, and fulfill other requirements to earn the field placement credits. Students will receive a grade of Credit/No Credit. To participate in UAP for credit, students must register for this UAP course and additionally submit an application with Externship Director Mary Sawicki.
