LAW-2192 Federal Courts

A study of the federal judicial system and its role in the governmental scheme. Among the topics to be covered: justiciability, including the doctrines of standing, ripeness and mootness, separation of powers, federalism, Congressional control of federal jurisdiction, legislative courts, sovereign immunity, Eleventh Amendment immunity, Ex Parte Young doctrine, Fourteenth Amendment, section 1983 litigation, absolute and qualified immunity in suits against state and federal officers, abstention and related doctrines, and federal habeas corpus.
