CJU-233 Pathways Through the Criminal Justice System

The course covers common pathways through the justice system and its major decision-making points,starting with investigation and arrest and moving through pre-trial processing, pre-trial diversionopportunities, court procedures and sentencing, including alternative sanctions. The primary goal of thecourse is to explore how social and racial inequities are created or exacerbated by criminal justiceprocedures, as well as how the current system may be reformed or replaced to advance social justice.Students will analyze the racial disparities in the criminal justice system from historical, political, legal,and sociological perspectives.
