CJU-204 Communities and Crime
Students will explore factors that attract, repel, and displace crime, explaining why community crimelevels vary. The course will also examine the influential role that neighborhood characteristics have onthe behavior of individuals. What social conditions contribute to the prevalence of crime and violence insome neighborhoods while others remain relatively unaffected by these issues? The course will delveinto the role of racial inequalities in these crime disparities. Moreover, how do the police and prisonsystems engage with communities, and do they help or hinder the crime-related challenges that localareas face?
