CJU-230 Bad Girls?
This course will analyze the cultural meanings associated with concepts of "good" and "bad" byexamining the social construction of gender and the influence of social forces in defining gender norms, as well as what is deemed "normal" and "abnormal." The course explores the images of the traditional bad girl in popular culture. Popular culture suggests that females who break with the socially condoned role of femininity are "bad. Girls, women, and those who identify as female who have power or who challenge authority are often portrayed as deviant and therefore bad. This course focuses on the impact of this discourse on real life social roles for females as well as the symbiotic relationship between fact and fiction.
