CI-1123 The Fantastic Feast: Social Justice Through Changing the Way
Eating together to celebrate is universal to all human societies. Yet, a feast may also be an unjust act to some society members and the environment. For example, cliques reinforce in-group/out-group membership in the cafeteria; race and gender stratify positions in the food industry; big agriculture has done damage to the environment. To fight social injustice locally, students will be invited to change the way we eat by proposing an end of the year feast to celebrate students success and community! The feast will reflect the diverse backgrounds of the community, accommodate students budgets, and use materials and ingredients that are just for the workers and the environment!
