Overview
Academic English Level 3 is designed for students with a low-intermediate English language proficiency. Level 3 builds upon the topics learned in level 2 with more advanced and detailed examples. Level 3 will introduce the topics of supporting details, modal verbs, intonation, inferencing, tag questions, and note-taking, as well as identification and use of transitions. Students will have opportunities to engage in debates and to begin writing essays with a focus on thesis statements and the organization of ideas. In addition, this level includes a course about life and culture in the U.S. with a comparison to other cultures.

In order to progress to the next Academic English level or chosen degree program, undergraduate students must earn a C or higher and graduate students must earn a B or higher.
