POLS-H348 Honors Supreme Court Seminar

Explores the role and function of the United States Supreme Court in our governmental system. Concentrates on how the Court makes decisions, as well as the Courts relationship to the other branches of government. Topics include the nomination and appointment process, case selection, the role of the Chief, role of advocates, and role of amici. Second half of the course uses cases on the Courts current docket as the primary focus of study. Students review pending cert petitions and conference to decide whether to grant review. Students also study pending merits cases in the current Term, and acting as Justices, students conference to decide the case.
