POLS-386 Conflict and Development: Continuation
This course reviews the drivers, challenges, and contributions of non-governmental organizations to promote accountability and good global governance. From the Geneva Conventions to affordable AIDS medications, womens rights, and the ban on land mines, private citizens have brought real changes to international affairs and developed global networks for collaborative action. Students will discuss the achievements and limitations of global civil society in humanitarian aid, human rights and conflict resolution, development and democracy, the environment, and other areas. The class will examine the methods NGOs choose, from global advocacy to grassroots service, as they set out to change the world.
