Academic Warning

Academic Warning indicates to a student that while their overall academic performance keeps them in good academic standing, their academic performance in the recent term indicates the student may benefit from taking advantage of resources on campus to improve their academic performance to avoid a more serious academic standing. While on an Academic Warning, students may be required to meet with an advisor. Students are considered on Academic Warning for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The student’s cumulative grade point average is 2.0 or above but the term grade point average is below 2.0
  • The student receives two or more grades of “I” or “W” within a semester. Students may have an advising hold placed on their account that restricts them from registering for any new classes.
  • The student receives a grade of “F” within a semester

Students who earn a GPA below 2.0 in their major, even if only one course has been completed, are alerted to minimum GPA requirements and referred to their major for advising. Students with at least two courses in their major and a GPA in their major under 2.0, will be placed on notice for not making progress in their major. If students do not meet the conditions the following semester they may be removed from their major.
