SBS-284 Risk and Opportunity

What is risk? While at first blush a seemingly straightforward question, after giving it some thought, our answer will tend to evoke uncertainty. In fact, that is precisely what risk is all about: uncertainty. Although risk is oftentimes suggestive of danger, a more inclusive way to consider risk might be in light of a future that is unknown – one where taking measured risks can also lead to more fruitful opportunities. In this course, we will explore the origins and history of risk as a mortal concept, examine how attitudes toward risk and dealing with uncertainty have changed over time, and ultimately seek to transform our perception of risk. By enhancing our understanding, analysis and management of risk (i.e., all critical factors for improved decision-making ability), we will find ourselves in a better position to not only minimize negative outcomes and avoid worst-case scenarios, but also increase our odds for realizing a most successful future.
