LAW-0082 Human Rights Project
The Human Rights Project is an experiential law lab course. Students chose their credit hours and then work on a project of their own design relating to human rights. The primary focus of the Project is on "bringing rights home," which includes creating domestic awareness of existing international human rights norms and exploring how those legal norms might be utilized at a local, state, or national level. Examples of projects done in the past include designing a "know your own rights" campaign, putting together "teaching module" for high school students, developing an app on reproductive rights, establishing a human rights blog relating to the right to housing, or doing a specific human rights project with a local NGO in which you already have an established relationship. Students need to be self-motivated and ready to engage in independent work. You will complete two project papers and a final project. The class will meet on Zoom once a week. The remainder of your time will be spent on research and project development, including meeting with the Professor and in small groups.
Relevant experience: Human Rights Survey, International Law, International Environmental Law, European Court of Human Rights, Civil Rights based course, or expertise or experience in the field of human rights.
