HST-294 Atlantic World History
Takes the study of history beyond national borders by looking at the inter-relations and exchange between Africa, Europe and the Americas, from the 1400s into 1888. Starting with the Portuguese-led explorations, the course traces the development of new transnational networks across the Atlantic and focuses on how such networks transformed geo-politics, economies, cultures, the peoples, and the social fabric of Africa, Europe and the Americas. Topics to be covered include conquest and colonization, trade, pirates, slavery, resistance, cultural mixing, revolutionary wars and slave emancipation.
