HLTH-822 Leading Yourself and Others

This comprehensive leadership course explores fundamental leadership concepts and practices, with a dual focus on personal leadership development and leading effective teams, particularly in the healthcare environment. Students will develop core leadership competencies, exploring different leadership styles, emotional intelligence, and ethical decision-making frameworks. Emphasizing both self-leadership and team leadership, the course helps students cultivate self-awareness, moral values, and personal insight to enhance their leadership capabilities. Students will learn essential skills for building and leading high-performing teams focusing on conflict management, negotiation, and decision-making while fostering team resilience and helping team members cope with the pace of change. Students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to engage effectively with the human side of healthcare organizations, examining the forces that shape these organizations through the lens of management theory and practice. Key topics include organizational structures, culture and ethics, teamwork, communication, planning, and problem-solving and managing people and performance in clinical and support services.
