CAS-HC246 Honors Challenge Understanding Suicidal and Nonsuicidal Self-Injury
In this class we will examine theoretical and empirical research conducted to answer the question \whyople harm themselves on purpose?\ We will examine suicidal thoughts and behaviors, nonsuicidal self-injury, and related phenomena (e.g., contagion, depression). Epidemiology, prevention, and treatment will be discussed. We will also examine the ways in which self-injury is portrayed in media (films, novels, podcasts). Students will demonstrate their understanding and critical analysis by completing a set of written assignments and in-class presentations.
