Examines the historical context, and cultural significance of rock and roll and other closely related genres, exploring the interactions and influences of media and music on social movements and popular culture in the United States from a social science perspective. The emergence and development of rock and roll is discussed in relationship to the social movements of the 1960's that formed the foundation of our current culture.
