ADG-S301 Design for Civic Engagement
How can aspiring artists and designers—working as global citizens—use the design process to amplify what matters most, especially when "what matters most" means something different to everyone? Offered every other fall to coincide with election years, this studio elective will utilize graphic design to raise awareness about voting and engage with democracy, leveraging the power of words and images to mobilize the local community and society as a whole. Inspired by the life and work of Corita Kent, an artist, educator, nun, and activist who had a profound influence on the visual identity of the 1960s and the fields of graphic design and advertising. Fundamentals of typography, hierarchy, and 2D composition will be covered. Experience with Adobe software preferred.
