LAW-2182 Advanced Legal Analysis
This course will build on your learning in the first year LPS course and/or the fall Legal Analysis & Methods course (though the latter is not a prerequisite), with additional emphasis on the skills necessary for success on the written portion of the bar examination. Students will learn the components of the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and the strategies utilized to produce a passing MPT answer. Students will work through specific types of MPT questions likely encountered on the exam. The goal of this course is to help students develop and practice fundamental legal analysis skills, including but not limited to critical analysis of statutes, case law, and administrative regulations; and completing lawyering tasks within set time constraints. Exercises and assignments will include assessing an MPT client file, effectively utilizing the MPT Library, identifying factual and legal issues, developing and evaluating strategies in order to solve the problem or achieve the objective; and reaching and communicating legal conclusions in the relevant MPT format.
