CAS-HC247 Names, an Interdisciplinary Exploration
This honors course, worth one academic credit, explores the phenomenon of naming, as an internal sense of self for individuals as well as an external marker for other institutions including government, cultures and family structures. The course proceeds through an interdisciplinary lens of names including elements of history, sociology, linguistics, economics, psychology and the law. The course culminates in a reflection for honors students to critically analyze the role of naming in modern society and what it means for a pluralistic, diverse democratic society.
