Residency Requirement Policy: In the College of Arts and Sciences, a two-course (8 credit) residency requirement must be satisfied for completion of a minor and a four-course (16 credit) residency requirement must be satisfied for the completion of a major.

Theatre Major Learning Goals and Objectives

Honors in the Major

To become a candidate for honors in the major, a student must:

  1. Have an overall GPA of 3.6
  2. Have a major GPA of 3.8
  3. Receive an invitation to apply from the Theatre Department
  4. Invited candidates must apply by April 15th. Applications will be reviewed by the Theatre faculty. Candidates will be informed of decision by June 1st
  5. Applications must include the following:
    1. Two letters of recommendation from Suffolk faculty 
    2. Personal statement addressing ways the student has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the department and the ability to succeed in an independent project.
    3. Brief description of the proposed Senior Honors Project. Options for the Senior Honors Project include writing a play, directing, acting in a major role, designing or stage managing a production, completing a research project, completing a professional internship, completing an experiential service-learning project, etc.

 

To complete requirements for honors in the major, a candidate must:

  1. Graduate with an overall GPA of 3.6
  2. Graduate with a major GPA of 3.8
  3. Complete the CAS H322, the “Real World Problems” Interdisciplinary course in the junior year.
  4. Complete THETR H555 (1-4 credits) in the senior year.
  5. Attend regular meetings with advisor during their Senior Honors Project (THETR H555)
  6. Present the completed Senior Honors Project at the Honors Symposium.
