SF-1140 Mercy Mercy Me: the Intersections of Art, Science, and the Environment
Investigates the intersection of art and environment through the eyes of artists, designers, engineers, and scientists. Examines the rise of consumer culture post World War II, the growth of environmental concern in the 1970s, the environmental impacts of consumer culture, and the global projections for what future holds in 2050. Students will consider how art contemplates the beauty of the natural world and reflects both hope and anxiety about our global future-and how science and engineering do the same! No extensive science background is required for this course; however, a curiosity about the physical world and the ways we describe it to ourselves through creative works is.
