POLS-401 Advanced Data Analysis and Politics
Come ready to practice the skills you acquired in Data Analysis and Politics (POLS 201) and then learn some more. In this class, you will conduct a data analysis of your choosing beginning to end. You will start by thinking of an interesting political science question one can answer using data and finding the appropriate dataset to do so. You will end by presenting your analysis and results to the class, explaining all the key elements using non-technical language, showing relevant statistics and visualizations, drawing appropriate conclusions, and identifying the analysis strengths and weaknesses. Students are expected to have extensive prior knowledge of and experience with (i) the R programming language, (ii) statistics, and (iii) the fundamentals of survey research, predictive models, and causal inference.
