LAW-2592 Advanced Health Law and Policy

This course explores the law, organization and finance of American medical care and insurance. Having completed Health Law & Policy (taught by either Professor Rodwin or Professor Landers) before enrollment is a prerequisite. Topics covered include: fraud and abuse and the Stark law restricting physician self-referral; joint ventures between hospitals and physicians; corporate transactions; health care compliance; health law markets and antitrust; new insurance regulation under the Affordable Care Act; Medicaid long-term nursing home eligibility; private long-term care insurance; regulation of nursing facilities; institutional liability; and other topics. Exercises and assignments will help students understand the interaction of issues.
