CMPSC-450 Principles of Cybersecurity
This course introduces the core concepts and best practices of modern cybersecurity through a systems-thinking lens. Students learn how security professionals analyze risk; secure communications (TLS/HTTPS and certificates); design authentication and access control; build and assess secure software; use isolation and sandboxing to contain failures; interpret vulnerability-testing results; and connect logging and monitoring to incident response and recovery. The course emphasizes practical reasoning over "hacking" and uses case studies to help students evaluate real-world security decisions.
