CAS-H322 Honors Junior Year Interdisciplinary "Real-World Problem"
This course offers an active, interactive and integrated project-based exploration of real-world problems through the lenses of the sciences, the humanities, and the arts. It is designed for students who seek to understand complex issues from more than one perspective, emphasizing the synergy between distinct academic disciplines to foster a holistic understanding.
Throughout the course, students will engage with a diverse array of topics, examining them through multiple methodologies and interpretative lenses. This interdisciplinary* approach will enable students to synthesize information and methodologies from various fields, enhance their critical thinking skills through the evaluation of complex issues, and develop the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across disciplinary boundaries and across differences.
This course enables students to develop a multifaceted approach to learning and problem-solving. This interdisciplinary class precedes the discipline-specific signature project that students will complete in their senior year. It prepares students for future academic and professional paths of their choice that will undoubtedly value interdisciplinary knowledge and collaboration.
This class is restricted to CAS students with junior standing who have been accepted into their departmental honors in the major program. *Definition of Interdisciplinary thinking: the ability to consider multiple disciplinary perspectives when solving a problem. Interdisciplinary thinking involves engaging ideas, literature, and/or theories from multiple academic disciplines and integrating those insights into at least one assignment. Students in this class will think and collaborate across disciplinary boundaries.
