SF-1209 Video Games As Expressive Art
The size and reach of the contemporary video game market is staggering: it is larger than the global film industry, twice the size of the American sports industry, and orders of magnitude larger than the streaming and physical music industry. Games are a medium of entertainment and expression that simply has no cultural parallel today. Which is to say that we can learn a lot by carefully studying games, gamers, and gaming culture and market. The academic word for this study is ludology. This course will introduce the basic analytical mechanics of ludology to help you practice your critical reading, writing, and thinking skills.
