EC-320 Economics of Sports

This course explores the economic and financial issues associated with professional and amateur sports. A section on industrial organization will examine the extent of monopoly and competition in the industry, the role of leagues and franchises, and the mechanisms used to finance teams. A section on public finance will look at the role of public funding of stadiums, and the impact of sports teams on local economies. The third section, on labor economics, will analyze how salaries are determined, and explore the extent of discrimination based on race, gender, and national origin.
