POLS-761 Understanding Governance
This course analyzes the most representative theoretical approaches in the field of International Relations (IR). In order to achieve this goal, the discussion of the selected readings focuses on three main areas. First, the course explores the basic premises of the different perspectives in the literature in IR and the debates among them. Second, it reviews the explanatory power of the most significant grand and middle range theories to comprehend the transformations of the global system. Third, it stimulates students to contest, adopt and adapt IR theoretical frameworks to explain current events and processes in the international arena. The student will actively work on learning and implementing IR theoretical approaches in four main areas: theoretical debates, interpretations of global history, comparison of regional or national IR practices of scholars, and evaluating the journal articles of renowned scholars.
