Economics Major Learning Goals and Objectives

Honors in the Major

To become a candidate for honors in the major, a student must:

  1. Have an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher 
  2. Have a major GPA or 3.5 or higher 
  3. Expect to be a Junior in or by the upcoming fall semester
 

In the spring of the sophomore year, please send a letter, not exceeding two pages, to the Chair of the Economics Department no later than the prior April 15. The letter should make a case for acceptance into the program – based on such factors as your academic achievements, extracurricular and/or work experience, future intellectual and social contributions, and any other relevant considerations.

The decision about admission into the program will be made by the Chair of the economics department together with the department’s Honors Coordinator.

  

To complete requirements for honors in the major, a candidate must:

  1. Complete EC H450 (Honors Econometrics) with at least a B+ (unless this course has already been completed) 
  2. Complete the Honors Real World Problems Interdisciplinary Course in the fall or spring of the Junior year. 
  3. Complete EC H490 (Honors Senior Seminar in Economics) with at least a B+ 
  4. Present research work from the Senior Seminar at the CAS Honors Symposium
  5. Graduate with a major GPA of 3.6 or higher, and an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher
