Honors in the Major
To become a candidate for honors in the major, a student must:
- Have an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Have a Major GPA or 3.3. or higher
- Past or present enrollment in at least one class each from Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics
- Submission of a PPE Honors in the Major application form
- Criteria for selection will include past academic performance and the promise of a research plan
- Submit applications by February 15th of Sophomore year
- Applications will be reviewed by the director and assistant director in consultation with PPE Steering Committee
To complete requirements for honors in the major, a candidate must:
- Maintain an overall GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Maintain a Major GPA of 3.3 or higher
- Complete the Honors Real World Problems Interdisciplinary Course in the Junior year
- Enroll in PPE H401 and write an honors-level research paper in the Senior year. The paper should be 8,000-10,000 words in length, and graded with an honors-level rubric. Student will meet with a research advisor (e.g. The PPE Director, Assistant Director, or another faculty member in an affiliated department) during the writing and research process. Student will present an oral defense of their project to a committee of three people, typically including the director and assistant director
